Art Ibiza: Raimon Torres

There's an exhibition of Photographs taken by the renowned architect Raimon Torres starting today in San Jose. Opening at 19.00 in the new cultural centre, Can Jeroni (next to Destino tapas bar) which was formerly the town's cinema, the exhibition will run until 28th February.
The photos contrast aspects of Ibiza life – town and country, tradition and modernity, local and foreign – in the years 1968 to 1975 when tourism was taking off on the island.

Torres, born in Barcelona in 1934 collaborated with such luminaries of the Ibiza architectural scene as Erwin Broner, Josep Lluís Sert and Félix Julbe, whose works are so valued and appreciated these days.

I had a sneak preview of the exhibition this morning and took some photos of the photos. Here they are.

You can tell the photos are genuine as nobody would wear yellow flares in Ibiza these days!

Natural Ibiza: Local Produce Market III

Surpirise, surprise, there's another big local fiesta in Ibiza this month. River town Santa Eulalia celebrates on the 12th of February, BUT, they actually prolong the festivities for weeks.

Our friends from Aaple have organised several local products markets in Santa Eulalia itself and villages within the borough.

It's all good stuff, and all of it really does come from Ibiza. See you there?

Art Ibiza: Romanie Sanchez

We featured the bar/shop/gallery/music venue Can Jordi in the San Jose countryside. It's now reopened after its winter holiday and spruce up and celebrated with a Rock'n'Roll disco on Saturday night.
It has its first art exhibition of the year running until 20th March featuring the work of San Jose resident Romanie Sanchez Smele, who was actually born in England in 1976. Her Spanish father died the following year and his English wife came to live in Ibiza where Romanie was brought up mixing with the artistic community on the island.

Her past works have been showcased in other Ibiza Art Bars (eg Can Tixedo) and she has also collaborated on art projects with members of the band King Crimson

Ibiza Bars: Sunset Strip in Winter

Ever wondered what your favourite Ibiza sunset bars look like in the depths of winter? Well, I strolled the length of San Antonio's Paseo Maritimo today with my trusty little Kodak and snapped them all in blustery, but sunny conditions with the temperature gauge in San An reading 16 degrees.

They all look very different with their winter wrapping on, so, in the order in which I walked, here they are.
