Formentera's White Gold: Liquid Salt

I spotted a poster in a shop window this morning advertising a product i hadn't seen before. It's liquid salt and it's produced right here in Formentera.

The island has a long history of salt production using the method of evaporating sea water in salt pans which was introduced by the Phoenicians thousands of years ago.

What makes the salt so good around these parts is the purity and clarity of the seawater which goes through a natural oxygenation and filtration process thanks to the large 'prairies' of the aquatic plant posidonia.

What makes this new liquid salt so good is that it has the lowest sodium content of all salt produced in Spain and is ideal for cardio-healthy diets. It comes in a handy spray bottle and two little squirts on your salad will keep attacks of cramp away in our hot summer climate!
