Undiscovered Ibiza: Cala Bassa

Thousands of visitors to Cala Bassa arrive on the ferry boats and water taxis from San Antonio which moor up at the small jetty under the cliffs at the far end of the beach.

Many of them will be totally unaware that in a cave above their heads dwells a man who has constructed a series of religious shrines in the pinewoods above the beach.

Most people probably wouldn't give a thought to scrambling over the rock paths which lead
up the cliffs in the hazy heat of summer but in winter the going's much easier and the series of numbered shrines -could they represent the stations of the cross? - are a fascinating start to a hike with splendid views on all sides.
