There's a great new calendar out for 2011 that features some of Ibiza's oldest hotels. Each month has a poster from the hotel from the early days of tourism and on the reverse side, a history of the hotel.
It's published by local business Barbary Press which is the brainchild of its author Martin Davies. Born in Liverpool in 1961, Davies had worked in the national Art Library in the V&A before moving to Ibiza in 1993 to become an English teacher.
The calendar will be available to buy in Ibiza's bookshops.
Our local newspaper Diario de Ibiza is hosting the calendar's launch in its club on 2nd December and has a gallery of photos online – Take a look!

Art Ibiza: Frank Delange
A few weeks ago we published the complete programme of art exhibitions at the Atzaro Hotel and Spa and they've now kindly sent us some more information about the exhibition by Frank Delange which starts today.
Jean Monnert, Président de la Fédération des salons historiques du Grand Palais á Paris said this about the artist:
"Frank Delante has only one simple and sublime desire: transmit his joy to unveil a world of his own, in which bluish landscapes have, up to now, been unknown to us. His luminous paintings irradiate an unlimited generosity, an intense desire to communicate his amazement, ´´ to translate these moments of happiness, to bring some sunshine to other people`` , and to nourish his own way of living based on the values of beauty, kindness… all those things which make for a more enjoyable, free and exalted life. A savoury of optimism and enthusiasm."
From which you'll probably gather that Frank doesn't work in the IT department of the council.
Here are some of his communications
Are you as amazed as he is?

Ibiza Weekend: Gran Hotel
The weekend starts early at Ibiza's super modern, super cool art hotel, The Gran Hotel.
Thursdays from 20.00 see Ibiza Essentials on the terrace where you can watch the lights come on all over Dalt Vila as the sun goes down.
If you've never visited the real casino at the Gran Hotel for fear of winning loadsamoney then you're in for a treat on Fridays when gambling for fun arrives in the form of Casino Royale in the Gee Bar.
You get all the glamour and sophistication of the 40's - think, Bergman, Monroe, Bogie, Bacall, Mitchum et al - plus a cool musical vibe and the stakes aren't so high. Your chips come with your drinks and you could win ...... more drinks!

Unbelievable Ibiza: Let the Parador Commence
Over the years I've written many articles on the subject of projects for Ibiza as promised by the politicians here. The common theme amongst them is that none of them have ever happened; the demolition of the Cretu mansion and the Idea disco in San Antonio, the plan of excellence in Cala de Bou (still not finished), the redevelopment of Central Ibiza to name but a few.
At the ceremony to mark the event a time capsule was buried in the foundations. In 50 years time when the parador is being demolished to make way for the new macro airport terminal 3, people will find the artifacts which the politicians believed typified early 21st century Ibiza.

These days I don't even bother with some of the pie in the sky schemes they come up with - the tram through Playa den Bossa for example - but I'm happy to say that after 20 years of gabbing about it, the first stone on the new parador has been laid.
A cassette tape of Julio Iglesias' Greatest Hits

Unconventional Ibiza: Valentine's Night.
Picture this, it's February 12th, St. Valentine's day minus two, and you haven't got a girlfriend (or boyfriend, this is 21st century Ibiza) so what do you do?
Don't worry, help is at hand from the good people at La Brasa and Talamanca Hostel Restaurants. They've come up with a cunning plan whereby single people can also enjoy a romantic night out for St. Valentines! Not only will couples be able to sample the 'lurve' ambience at both places, but there'll be special communal tables for chicos and chicas who are unattached.
The three course meal plus wine at La Brasa will cost around €38 and, even better, at the Talamanca Hostel, the meal, after dinner dancing and a room for the night by the shores of the gently lapping Mediterranean sea is only €50 per person.
Good luck all you singletons
