The annual Ruta de la Sal yacht regatta is coming to San Antonio once again this Easter. A great success last year, the regatta, which commemorates the breaking of a siege in Barcelona by a boat carrying salt from Ibiza, starts on 1st April.
As usual there are two routes; the 140 nautical mile northern route from Barcelona with 89 competitors, and the southern, 120 nautical mile route from Denia with 105 inscriptions.
Even if you're not really a sailing buff, it's great to be in San Antonio when the yachts all arrive. The harbour's full of bobbing boats, there's a special Ruta de la Sal 'Village' with marquees for entertainment, souvenirs and food and drink, and the Jolly Jack Tars normally take over Es Paradis disco for a big function.
With so many boats and their crews all in town at the same time, the bars and resataurants of San Antonio, particularly along the harbour, are full and lively for 2 or 3 days until 4th April.
